GALT, CA (MPG) -Each year, a small group of students begin a physically rigorous activity called Color Guard. Many students who begin in middle school continue through their high school years and some continue into college.
Color Guard is the flag and rifle teams consisting of athletes from the middle school level to the high school level.
This season the McCaffrey Middle School and the Galt High/Liberty Ranch High School teams, both coached by Joy Maestretti, qualified to attend championships early in their competition season, which began in February. Each team attended seven different competitions, traveling as far away as San Mateo and as close as Elk Grove.
On Sunday, April 7, both teams competed at the Championships  at Rodriguez High School in Fairfield. The McCaffrey team came in first and became champions of the 2024 Scholastic Middle School Championships.
The Galt/Liberty Ranch team placed fifth out of 12 teams, which is also a commendable feat.
As the season is ending, both teams are looking forward to next year’s competition season which will start this month, with conditioning and welcoming new members.
If you want your student to join these award-winning teams, conditioning practices start on April 23 at Galt High School in the Nottoli Dome, beginning at 4 p.m.
Congratulations to both teams for a fantastic year. H
