GALT, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawks’ softball team is having a great season after beating Bradshaw Christian 14-3 last week.
The Hawks have an 11-1 win record, with Rosemont hot on their heels with a 10-1 record. The Hawks' only loss this season was to Rosemont, and Rosemont’s only loss this season was to the Hawks. The League Championship will be on the line when the Hawks play Rosemont for the last time Wednesday.
Sophomore Carlie Perez is in her second season playing varsity for the Hawks. She pitched four or five innings against Bradshaw and was asked what her strategy for success was.
“I would say to have confidence and that’s a big thing,” said Perez. “If you get down on yourself it will show.  You just have to keep your head up and trust your strong defense. We have a very strong defense and I know they have my back even if I let up a good hit, I know they will get the next out.”
“We do have some harder competition with Rosemont this year,” said Perez. “Union Mine is also coming for us, but it will be a fun competitive year-end.”
Head Coach Vince Bunac knows this team will fight. “These girls will bite and scratch and battle to the end,” said Bunac. “All the freshmen came back after a heck of a season last year and we haven’t skipped a beat. It started with a win against Rosemont. It gave us a lot of confidence and we are going to ride it out and hopefully bring that League Championship home.”
