GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch High School track and field athlete Larry Lucas achieved a historic milestone this season, becoming the first hurdler in school history to compete at the state level while setting new school records in the process.

Lucas, who captured third place in the 110-meter hurdles at the Masters tournament, was recently honored with a Certificate of Recognition presented by Sen. Roger Niello.

The senior standout’s journey to state competition was marked by a record-setting performance at the Masters tournament, where he clocked a time of 14.70 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. The time not only earned him a bronze medal finish but also shattered the previous Liberty Ranch school record in the event.

Lucas’ individual success was complemented by his contribution to the school’s 4x100-meter relay team, where he holds the school record alongside teammates Joseph Brown, Camren Hudsen and George Adrian. The relay team’s record-setting performance demonstrates the depth of talent in Liberty Ranch’s sprint program.

Sen. Niello’s presentation of the Certificate of Recognition highlights the significance of Lucas’ achievement not only for Liberty Ranch High School but for the broader community. The legislative acknowledgment underscores how Lucas’ historic performance has brought positive attention to the school’s athletic program.

As the first Liberty Ranch hurdler to compete at the state level, Lucas has established a new benchmark for future Hawks track athletes. His 14.70 performance in the 110-meter hurdles sets a high standard while proving that Liberty Ranch can compete with the state’s elite programs.

The combination of individual excellence and team success positions Lucas as one of the most accomplished track athletes in Liberty Ranch history. His dual record-holding status in both hurdles and relay events demonstrates his versatility and value to the Hawks’ track program.

Lucas will be attending UCLA in the fall, but he will not be running track so he can focus on his academics at the prestigious university.
