CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Elections are thankfully well behind us. But balloting has begun for the Best of Carmichael awards and businesses are energizing bases. Though the local popularity contest was last year derailed by COVID restrictions; 2021’s competition will occur with traditional online voting. Organizers hope to schedule a fundraiser awards gala for later this year.
The annual run-off allows consumers to support favorite merchants, non-profits and services. No voter registration is needed: supporters go online to elect favorites in 20-plus categories. These include best restaurant; best financial service; best real estate company; best dentist; best senior home – and many more entities that make CA 95608 a commercial hub. Citations, kudos, media exposure and bragging rights reward victors.
Local residency is not required to vote -- contestants can solicit support from anywhere in the world – but nominated businesses must either operate in Carmichael or be members of the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce. Voters have several more weeks in which to cast ballots. Polls will close and results will be announced in May.
The event is run by the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce and publishers of the Carmichael Times. “We aim to spotlight businesses that are cornerstones of our community,” says Chamber president Joe Green. “These people also give back to Carmichael. Results remind everyone of the great products and services we have here at our fingertips.”
Carmichael Kiwanis Club took dual 2019 awards for best service group and for hosting the annual Taste of Carmichael festival. River City Brewery supped up acclaim for preferred pub -- and additional kudos for winning most votes overall. Lido Café and Bakery took the cake for best restaurant. Eskaton Village rallied votes to secure best senior living. Carmichael Presbyterian’s cup ranneth over with best-church praises.
While new winners emerge every year, numerous repeat victors have prevailed. Bel Air #511 was elected best grocery store every year since the contest began. Katie Pexa’s Farmers agency has won three times for best insurance provider. The competition has garnered increasing community excitement since its 2016 inception. Many thousands of voters participated in 2019 and 163 guests enjoyed sold-out celebrations at the Milagro Centre.
