CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - A family business – whose business is family – is celebrating a grand reopening and an eight-year anniversary in Carmichael.

In 2014, founders Dave and Debbie Waddell started Home Care Assistance in Roseville. Its mission was to provide at-home aid for seniors. With son Ryan at the helm, the company now operates from the Bel Air Shopping center on Fair Oaks Boulevard.

“A retail shopping center allows us to be a community resource,” says Waddell. “People can drop by and ask questions without an appointment; we’ll talk to anyone who comes in.”

Father of four Waddell was raised by parents with hands-on elder care commitment. “My dad grew up looking after his grandmother,” he explains. “Seeing how important these relationships were, I was motivated to care for my own grandparents. I learned to love helping people. Even If someone is not going to be a client, I enjoy giving my time to help steer them in the right direction.”

His company employs 75 caregivers. Professionally trained, they serve 50 or more seniors with weekly visits. “They are out-going; they’re creative in finding ways to engage seniors,” says the boss. “They’ll go above and beyond to help people remain in their own homes.”

Staff duties range from meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry and medication reminders. “They’ll take people grocery shopping and to the pharmacy,” says Waddell. “They’ll drive them to their hairdresser, a movie and the casino – to Disneyland, if they want. We ask people about their goals for staying at home; then help customize a plan to achieve those goals.”

Cognitive exercises are part of staff visits. “Keep aging minds sharp helps delay decline,” says Waddell. “We treasure every client. We work to find creative ways to keep them healthy and happy in the place they love – their home.”
