The Liberty Ranch girls’ soccer team took the SVC League Championship for the second year in a row.
Maryn Rogers was voted SVC MVP by the league coaches and Elianna Enriquez was named SVC Defensive MVP.
Head Coach Rob Huarte named seven athletes to the All-League team: Maryn Robers, Elianna Enriquez, Ellianna Keiser, Natalie Merlin, Hailey Katen, Libby Portillo and Halle Ory.
Head coach Rob Huarte, who has been coaching Liberty Ranch soccer since the school opened, was voted Coach of the Year by his peers for the second time in a row. This was his fourth time being named Coach of the Year.
Huarte says the honor represents the soccer community. “Obviously I’m flattered, humbled and honored to receive this award for the second year in a row,” said Huarte. “I think it represents a lot more than just me, though. It certainly reflects our team winning and our entire Galt community. I’m very fortunate to have such a talented group of players to coach as well.”
“I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to also recognize the coaching staff that supported me: Ciara Porter and Brian Castaneda. When I think of this group of players and how hard they’ve worked all season and how committed they’ve been from the start, not only playing together but for each other, I’m thrilled to have had the privilege of coaching this team.”
Huarte reflected on his coaching philosophy. “A good coach will make their players see what they can be rather than what they are,” he said. “One of my best qualities as a coach is that I ask a lot of challenging questions and let the person come up with the answer.” H
