GALT, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawks played the Galt Warriors at Dry Creek golf course last week.
The Hawks had the best match of their season, according to head coach Mike Turpin.
“It was a good win today,” said Turpin. “We shot our season low of 223. Hunter Rohner shot lights out with a 35. Sean O’Brien shot a solid 43, and the rest of the boys shot respectable scores. We are now 7-2 in league play.”
For the rest of the Hawk scores, Trevor Schweitz shot 47, Kobe Aguillen 48, Bryton Gibson 50 and Chris Gutiérrez 52.
The Warriors didn’t fare as well, shooting a 290 for the day. Garrett Rose had the low score for Galt with 52, Josh Basto 54, Hayden Miller 57, Ayden Stalwart 61, Austin Sullivan 66 and Carson McEwen 69.
Next was the League Tournament where Liberty Ranch ended up finishing fourth in the tournament and finished in third place overall in league play.
Turpin had hoped for a better outcome. “It was a disappointing way to finish the season,” said Turpin. “But we just stumbled a bit towards the end of the season and just missed going to the playoffs as a team. I’m proud of the boys’ effort this season and I hope this is a lesson for them to continue to work hard and always strive to improve in the fickle game of golf.”
Moving on to the playoffs as individuals will be Hunter Rohner and Sean O’Brien. They were to compete in the Divisionals May 6 at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course.
Hunter Rohner was named MVP of the league to go along with his all-league honors. He had quite the season and I was very happy for him because he truly is a hardworking player who has outstanding grades and he’s a great teammate as well.
Galt golf coach Dave Simperman will be retiring this year and ending a 29-year coaching career.
“As I told the kids once we finished our match, I wouldn’t have done it for 29 years if I didn’t enjoy the kids, the coaches, and seeing positive results each year,” said Simperman. “By the end of each year, kids have grown, and they have developed skills and relationships were built. I can only hope that the lessons taught will be carried through lifelong skills.”
