GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch baseball started out strong against the El Dorado Cougars on their senior night.  The atmosphere was festive with banners, treats and personalized gifts for the three seniors: Phillip Vasquez, Theodore Seidel and Shaye Setter.
Setter slid across the plate with helmet flying to score in the first inning. The Hawks scored again in the third inning when Vance Moe made it around. The score was 2-0.
The Cougars scored one in the fourth inning.
The Hawks were up again, and when the umpire erroneously called a Liberty Ranch batter out on the second strike, head coach Jason Adversalo caught the error and ran two players in as the Cougars walked off the field.
The umpire checked with the Hawk scorekeeper and gave the Hawks the two runs, and that made the score 4-1. El Dorado’s coach came out of the dugout and convinced the umpire that their scorekeeper was correct, and the umpire took the two runs away.
Needless to say, there was a lot of grumbling from both sets of stands, but the boys took it in stride and went back to playing.
El Dorado scored twice in the fifth inning, putting them ahead of the Hawks 3-2.
Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh inning and that was the final score.
Kade LeCompte pitched for the first 6.2 innings, only walking one batter and striking out five. The Cougars on the other hand, played three pitchers and between the three walked four Hawks and struck out 10.
A win against El Dorado could have put the Hawks in second place for league, but they ended the season in third place.
