GALT, CA (MPG) - Seven Galt athletes and their two coaches spent the weekend of June 28-30 competing at the NorCal Summer Games for the Special Olympics.
The participants enjoyed living the dorm life at Santa Clara University for the weekend. Over 1,000 coaches and athletes participated in the event. Some 700 volunteers helped to make the event possible, and hundreds of spectators attended.
Bradley Margetts had the honor of being the co-emcee with KRON-4's Kyla Grogan. This was the largest crowd Margetts had ever spoken in front of, and after a few lines he got into the groove and the crowd was cheering him on.
Gold medalists Brandi Chastain and Connor Fields were the keynote speakers and brought their gold medals for the athletes to check out.
Anyone who has met Margetts knows what an ebullient personality he has, and he commands attention.
“This was the most amazing experience,” said Margetts. “I was so proud to be the voice for my fellow athletes and bring awareness to Special Olympics Athletes all over NorCal. I had a blast and I’m ready to do it again. This is something we work towards all year, and I am so thankful for the volunteers, sponsors and law enforcement officers that support us all year long.”
