GALT, CA (MPG) - This year, construction began on the long-awaited C Street Enhancements Project. This effort is the product of years of planning and community engagement and will transform C Street into a gateway entrance welcoming residents and visitors alike to the city of Galt.

Construction is taking place along C Street, starting at Civic Drive near the Highway 99 off-ramp and ending at Sixth Street. 

Beginning in mid-August, traffic on C Street will be reduced to one lane. One lane of westbound traffic on C Street will always remain open, and eastbound traffic will be diverted to detour routes. See construction maps for details.

During the first phase of the project, work will begin on the north side of C Street, with westbound traffic diverted to the eastbound lanes. Eastbound traffic will be diverted to A Street. The first phase of work is anticipated to be completed in the fall.

The second phase of work will begin in the fall on the south side of C Street. Westbound traffic will remain open in the westbound lane, and the eastbound lane will be closed with traffic diverted to A Street. Major construction during this phase is anticipated to be complete in December, with additional minor finish work that will not require full lane closures anticipated through January 2025. 

Throughout construction, north and southbound traffic will be able to travel through the South Lincoln Way intersection, but please note the stop light will be flashing red and may cause delays.

Access to the Galt Plaza shopping center will be available via Civic Drive to the south, and from the A Street entrance next to Save Mart from the north.

Access to businesses and properties within the work zone will be maintained at all times. If there is work planned that will directly impact your property or driveway, the project team will notify you in advance.

Improvements will include landscaping and decorative hardscape features,  improved street lighting,  pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction, enhanced pedestrian crossings and protected bike lanes.

Construction activity began in spring and is expected to be complete by early 2025.

During construction, expect traffic delays, lane reductions and limited street parking. Access to local businesses will be maintained and businesses will remain open. Drive with caution and plan for additional travel time.
