GALT, CA (MPG) - Galt, and much of the nation, celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Neighbors, first responders, non-profits, community leaders and businesses joined together at three locations.
A caravan left Galt Police Department at 6 p.m. and headed to Meadowview Park, then to the Galt softball complex and finally to Community Park. There were about 1,500 community members participating in the event.
Galt has participated in this event for decades. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie with the goal of making our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Galt Police Chief Brian Kalinowski enjoys the community camaraderie of the event every year.
“The opportunity for the department to get out from their regular assigned duties and connect with the community at our three organized locations was refreshing,” said Kalinowski. “Staff worked with community members, businesses and local groups to ensure a great community connection. Although we wish it was a bit cooler for everyone, it was a great event. A big thank you to our Community Service officers who led the department’s effort for this event.”
Galt Community Service Officer Julio Roque spent many hours planning, organizing and recruiting participants; Community Service Officer Colby Cuthbertson assisted in the planning.
Donations made allowed for Sensational Ice Cream to give out soft serve or slushies for free at all three locations.
There were free haircuts, free taco trucks and all kinds of free food for neighbors to enjoy.
