Two Sent to Hospital in School Bus Accident
Sep 27, 2024 11:45AM ● By Matthew MaloneGALT, CA (MPG) - A Galt Joint Union High School District bus was involved in a crash on Sept. 25 on Twin Cities Road. No major injuries were reported.
The district reported the crash in a social media post, later confirmed to the Herald by Superintendent Anna Trunnell.
Trunnell said that a district school bus was transporting students on Twin Cities Road just after 7 a.m. when it was struck on the front by another vehicle.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesman Mark Leavitt, three vehicles were involved in the crash. The bus was traveling eastbound. It had stopped and then began to accelerate. A pickup truck traveling west stopped for the bus, but a dump truck behind the pickup could not stop in time. Leavitt said the dump truck hit the pickup, pushing the pickup into the bus.
Though there were no major injuries, Trunnell said the bus driver and one student were taken to a hospital. Leavitt said they had complaints of pain.
As Twin Cities is a state highway, California Highway Patrol responded and cleared the scene. Afterward, another bus took the students to school.
Trunnell did not disclose the bus’s destination or the students’ school, saying the district is still communicating with families. The other drivers were not identified.
“Thank you to our bus driver, transportation staff, our district staff, and emergency responders for working so quickly and diligently to ensure that everyone was safe and cared for,” Trunnell said.
