GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch High School showed off its school spirit with a week of Homecoming festivities, including, on Sept. 27, the Homecoming parade and crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King.
The class floats followed the theme of “Hawks Are on a Road Trip: Destination Homecoming.”
The freshmen headed out west, the sophomores visited Mount Rushmore, the juniors saw the sights in New York City, and the seniors had a day at the beach.
In all, 16 colorfully-decorated floats represented Liberty Ranch’s classes and clubs, and members of this year’s Homecoming Royal Court waved to onlookers.
Kami Kormen was part of a group of paradegoers supporting the GALT Shooters club. She helped decorate the float with streamers and balloons in the team colors, orange and black. The competitive shooting team is composed of students from Liberty Ranch and Galt High School.
“We kind of like to go over the top in decorating, I feel like. Just as moms and the kids, we all work together and blew up a lot of balloons and had fun doing that,” Kormen said.
Royalty members were chosen by their respective club or class. This year’s Royal Court members were: Athletic Senate, Paityn Snow and Wyatt Blevins; AVID, Amanda Thompson and Aneesa Barnes; Band, Jade Garza; Cheer, Jaden Lake and Larissa Vang; Color Guard, Rosie Delchini; Creative Writing Club, Alyssa Herzog; Flock, Libby Portillo and Jimmy Lopez; FFA, Joey O’Neal and Peyton Deuel; Freshman Class, Aaliyah Frazier and Hok Chhay Meng; GALT Shooters, Andrew Guthrie and Alora Gedney; Interact Club, Zoe Malson Page; International Thespian Society, Hailey Gomes and Esperanza Flores; Junior Class, Hannah Abbott and Leyton Munoz; Link Crew, Kailee Keefer and Emma Cerda; Latinos Unidos, Galilea Del Toro and Aisha Gonzalez; ASB/Leadership, Alyssa Martin and Trevor Schweitz; National Honor Society, Nimran Dhaliwal and Nolan Farrar; Senior Class, Alexis Ortega and Antonio Nuno; Sports Medicine, Serena Tarifa and Kendall Duryee; and Sophomore Class, Khali Barrantes and Wyatt Corriea.
With the evening came the homecoming football game. At halftime, the Top 10 royalty members lined up on the field for the announcement of Homecoming King and Queen: ASB’s Schweitz and Flock’s Portillo.
Schweitz told the Herald that he wasn’t expecting to be chosen for Homecoming King.
“I thought it was going to be one of these other guys but I won. And I’m thankful for the school and I’m thankful that I won,” Schweitz said.
He thanked his parents and social science teacher Kellie Gorelick, and he congratulated Portillo on her selection.
Just as surprised as Schweitz, Portillo was happy to have been recognized. She thanked her friends and family, as well as her boyfriend and his family, for their support.
