GALT, CA (MPG) - It was a high-scoring game for the Hawks against the Amador Buffaloes on Friday night with Liberty Ranch securing the Homecoming win 45-28.
Liberty Ranch received the kick-off and on the third play Joseph Brown broke free and scored less than a minute into the game. The extra-point kick was blocked.
After a couple turnovers, Amador was able to score right at the end of the first quarter, making good on their PAT. This would be the only quarter the Hawks allowed Amador to outscore them 7-6. The Hawks managed two touchdowns in the second quarter, while the Buffaloes only scored a field goal.
In the second quarter, after Amador turned the ball over on downs, Joseph Brown broke away and was finally stopped on Amador’s 45-yard line.
Joseph Brown clawed all the way to the 45-yard line. Andrew Quinn then punched through Amador’s defense and gained some yards. Next quarter, Wyatt Blevins decided to run the ball and completed another down.
The Hawks were close to the goal line and Kyle Quaresma pancaked a defender and allowed Joseph Brown to hop into the end zone.
Brown had a fantastic night racking up 345 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
Lucas Temple caught the only completed pass of the night and ran for the end zone scoring after a 57-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good. The hawks didn’t score any extra points on their three touchdowns in the first half.
Amador connected on a few long passes, but the Hawk defense fought them off and kept them from the end zone. Amador could only manage a field goal with seconds left in the half, making the score 18-10.
Amador received the ball for the second half and scored on a long pass. They tried to even the score with a two-point conversion and the Hawk defense held them off: 18-16.
To their credit, Amador never gave up, but the Liberty offense just kept doing its job and managed to score three touchdowns in the third to Amador’s two, and each team scored once in the fourth quarter.
Head Coach Warren Schroeder says his young team continues to develop.
“We are proud of how our boys have faced and overcome a great deal of adversity so far this season,” said Schroeder. “We have been missing some key players recently due to various reasons and just lost another key player Friday to injury. We know that our young squad will continue to develop and put forth their best effort each week to overcome these challenges.”
Andrew Quinn scored two touchdowns and garnered an impressive 158 yards.
On defense, Joseph Brown, George Adrian, Camren Hudsen and Cesar Becerra each participated in six tackles. Eston Tucker, Andrew Quin, Oscar Romero and Joseph Adams made at least four tackles each.
The Hawks look to another league win Friday at Argonaut.
