GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt High School Warriors filled the air with music on Oct. 4 for their Homecoming celebration, concluding the week with a showcase of school spirit among current students and alumni.

The school’s student organizations paraded through Erv Hatzenbuhler Stadium with floats decorated according to the theme “Galt’s Got the Beat,” and each float was accompanied by a signature song.

For example, the freshman class chose “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo. The sophomore class jammed to Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock.” The juniors went disco with Abba’s “Dancing Queen.” The senior class paid homage to Rihanna and Jay-Z with “Umbrella.”

The cheerleaders’ float, based on Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” was named the most creative, and FFA’s float was named the overall winner.

To start off the Homecoming football game, student Maggie Thomlinson gave a rousing performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

At halftime, the Homecoming royalty lined up on the field and the Homecoming King and Queen were announced: James McGranahan of the senior class and Jayda Williams from cheer. The 2023 King and Queen, Brendan Lane and Hope Garten crowned their successors.

Williams got an enthusiastic cheer from audience members when she was introduced. Williams said she was shocked to be chosen.

McGranahan said it felt “awesome” to be named Homecoming King.

“You know, I love the opportunity and I can’t wait to crown the next one next year,” McGranahan said. McGranahan thanked his leadership teachers for pushing him to be the best person he can be.

Royalty members were chosen by their respective club or class. This year’s Royal Court members were: McGranahan and Rosie Roberts, Senior Class; Jayda Williams and Areonna Rocha, Cheer; Ingrid Ortigoza and Bailey Serrato, Anime Club; Fey Garcia Damian and Evelyn Regalado, AVID; Alfred Hayden and Danielle Singh, Band; Cindy Jaramillo and Amagrace Moua, California Scholarship Federation; Levi McDonald and Audrey Gonsalez, FFA; Roman Tapia and Jaylen Rocha-Brooks, Football; Noah Stratton and Priscila Esparza, Freshman Class; Sophia Alfaro and Mae Trull, German Club; Elia Rodriguez and Gissel Garcia, Interact Club; Francisco Ceja and Caroline Castillo, Junior Class; Jocelyn Carrillo and Ariana Soto, Latinos Unidos; Adam Preciado and Brianna Ordaz, Sophomore Class; and Alexia Bulahan and Payton Atkins, Thespians Club.
