Mustangs No Match for the Hawks

GALT, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch football team dominated the Argonaut Mustangs 27-50 on Friday, Oct. 4, at Argonaut High in Jackson.

The Hawks have garnered a few injuries and some of the first-string seniors are out for the rest of the season.  Head Coach Warren Schroeder now must rely on some sophomores along with the other juniors and seniors.

“We are proud of the way our boys came out and played hard despite the adversity we have faced,” said Schroeder. “Argonaut provided a great test for our young team to continue developing and get prepared for our next opponent.”

In the first quarter, both teams scored 14 points, but after that, the Hawks turned up the heat and managed to score 29 unanswered points in the third quarter alone.

Quarterback Wyatt Blevins completed five out of 10 passes for 129 yards.

Joseph Brown continues to rack up the yards gathering another 223 last week.  Sophomore Andrew Quinn rushed for 70, Lucas Temple received for 66, Camren Hudsen contributed 110, Joseph Adams had a 29-yard punt return, Landon Peterson rushed for 16, James Rangel rushed for 11 and Kobe Aguillen rushed for 10 yards.

Aguillen also made an amazing four interceptions.

Axel Torres helped to stop the Mustang offense with 9 tackles, Camren Hudsen had 8 tackles, Sean O’Brien 7, Easton Tucker 7, Andres Raya 6, Cesar Becerra 6, Andrew Quinn 5, James Rangel 5, Xavier Davis 4, Lucas Temple 3, Joseph Adams 3, Michael Lamson 3, Damien Lee 3 and Hunter Adversalo 3.

Joseph Brown, Lucas Temple and Andrew Quinn each made two touchdowns and Blevins ran one in. Kobe Aguillen scored a two-point conversion and James Rangel kicked 6 extra points after touchdowns.

The Hawks will head up to El Dorado on Friday, Oct. 11.
