GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors hosted El Dorado for their homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 4. The Warriors started off strong, holding El Dorado scoreless in the first quarter.

The Warriors were not able to score either and El Dorado finally put some points on the board with 8:53 left in the first half. El Dorado turned it up and kept putting points on the board and when the half time buzzer rang, El Dorado was up 0-20.  The final score was Galt 0, El Dorado 42.

The Warriors made a lot of progress towards the end zone, but were not able to take advantage of their position and punter Ben Stratton was called on many times.

The Warrior defense held El Dorado to only one touchdown in the fourth quarter.  Galt quarterback Robert Rubio connected passes with Samuel Castle, James Gilbert and Jaylen Brooks, but the Cougar defense was able to hold them off each time they got close to the goal.

Head coach Mark Waldon continues to develop his young team.  “Sophomore Robert Rubio, in his third game at quarterback is developing,” said Waldon. “He moved well on his roll out passes, threw accurately on the run and showed maturity at the position.”

“Defensively we played better against the run with another sophomore, linebacker James Gilbert has been leading the team with tackles each week since moving up to varsity.  These younger players that have moved up show a lot of promise for a team in its building phase.”

The Warriors head to Amador for their next game on Oct. 11.
