GALT, CA (MPG) - On Friday, Nov. 1, the last football game of the regular season was played between cross-town rivals Liberty Ranch and Galt High School, better known as the Dairy Bowl.
The Hawks shut out the Warriors 49-0 before the clock ran down to zero at Galt High stadium.
The game began with the Hawks receiving the kickoff. They moved downfield until quarterback Wyatt Blevins was able to finish the drive, scoring a touchdown with 6:13 left in the first quarter.
When the Warriors got the ball on offense, they began to make some progress when Hawk Kyle Quaresma pancake-tackled Galt quarterback Robert Rubio for a large loss. The Warriors had to punt.
Blevins completed a pass to Andrew Quinn, who scored on a 42-yard reception, making the score 14-0 with 3:38 left in the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, Blevins couldn’t find any open receivers, so he ran almost 60 yards and scored again.
Galt turned the ball over once again and Joseph Brown scored for the Hawks. At the halftime buzzer the score was 28-0.
The rain started at halftime, and that made for a lot of fumbles and recoveries with a slippery ball.
The Hawks finished the season third place in league and will begin playoffs Friday, Nov. 8 at home (after press time).
Hawk head coach Warren Schroeder has been preparing the team for the playoffs all season. “The Dairy Bowl was a great experience for our players as they take great pride in keeping the Dairy Bowl trophy at LRHS,” said Schroeder. “We had many players perform well, including Wyatt Blevins who made some good decisions at quarterback.”
“We now have the opportunity to play a very tough opponent in Ripon, who has already beaten some of the highest-ranked division teams this year. I know the players and coaches will do their best to prepare mentally and physically to rise to the challenge.”
Warrior new head coach Mark Walden says he is optimistic about the foundation they are beginning to build.
“This year has been a roller-coaster ride full of ups and downs with a ton of lessons learned,” explained Walden. “Regardless of the record, relationships were built, and a foundation began to take form.”
Blevins and Quinn each scored two touchdowns, while Brown, Camren Hudson and Michael Schroeder each scored one. James Rangel made seven out of seven extra-point kicks.
Blevins completed two out of six throws and with his runs had a total of 177 yards. Brown added 123 to his record, Quinn 112, Hudson 100, Brodey Johnston five, and Schroeder scored from the 1-yard line.
The top tackle stats belong to Sean O’Brien and Easton Tucker with six tackles. Hudson-5, Axel Torres-5, Michael Lamson-3, Quinn-3, Cesar Becerra-3, Johnston-2, Landon Peterson-2, Aguille-1, Rangel-1, and Xavier Davis-1.
The Warriors did not have any stats posted by press time.
