GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Cross Country team participated in the SVC League Championships held at Folsom Lake College on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The runners delivered outstanding performances in the challenging Sierra Valley Conference, achieving eight new personal records, two season records and earning four all-league honors. Notably, Kitto Gonzalez received the MVP first place honor in the Sierra Valley Conference.
Senior Emilyann Sheldon earned all-league honors with a sixth-place finish in the varsity girls. Seniors Kitto Gonzalez and Logan Rose took first and second in the varsity boys race, with Alejandro Herrera finishing 10th and also earning all-league honors.
Head coach Bruce Peterson said the team has faced challenges this season.
“It’s been a long, challenging season and this was one of the few difficult courses we faced, but I’m thrilled with the team’s performances,” said Peterson. “The boys varsity and girls varsity teams finished third in the Sierra Valley Conference Championships behind El Dorado and Union Mine. The Sierra Valley Conference is among the best Division 4 conferences in the San Joaquin Section in Cross Country. Last year both El Dorado and Union Mine reached the California State Championships. For our athletes to be this competitive is a tribute to their dedication.”
