GALT, CA (MPG) - The Manteca Buffaloes gave the Lady Hawk basketball team a run for their money on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Buffaloes managed to stay four points ahead until the last quarter when the Hawks held them to two points.
Kendall Duryee finally put the Hawks ahead with a beautiful 3-point nothing-but-net shot from the north side of the basket. With seconds remaining, Manteca almost tied it again, but the Hawks recovered the ball and Madisyn Robbins sealed the coffin with a buzzer-beating shot for a final score of 46-41.
Head coach Josh Williams said it was a very scrappy game.
“It was whatever is needed to get the ‘W’,” said Williams. “I am so proud of them. It was a big win. Obviously, our top scorer Haley Smith is not here, and I am so proud of the girls for coming together in spite of that and getting the win.”
Summer McCoy was the high scorer with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
“I just kept hanging tough,” said McCoy. “We did a great job coming together and Manteca was definitely a tough team. They made us fight for it. We had to hang tough and coach kept telling us what we needed to do. So we listened to our coach; he is awesome, and we eventually won the game.”
Robbins scored 11 points, Kamrynn Blevins-10, Cruz Gregorio-5, Kendall Duryee-4 and Ella Garcia-2.
Gregorio and Blevins each grabbed 11 rebounds, Duryee-7, Robbins-6 and Garcia-1.
