GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch wrestlers started out the 2024/25 season with a bang. The Galt Warrior Classic was held on Nov. 23 and hosted varsity girls/JV girls and JV boys.
The Hawk varsity ladies had two first-place winners. Veronika Shayhen and Kaydince Silva won the honors, followed up with Anastasia Richardson taking second place.
The JV boys had Braden Salbeck and Vincent Hernandez placing first. Second-place finishers were Angel Contreras and Anthony Maldonado. Third place wrestlers were Jessie Bernal, Jordan Gonzalez, Jaden Vang and Jack Rowe. Liberty locked up eighth place as a team out of a field of 17.
The varsity boys entered the Rod Gaines Tournament at Tokay High. Wyatt Corriea led the boys varsity with a second place as well as Chalo Enriquez placing the same. Brandon Eckroth won the Consolation bracket.
The following weekend was at Tokay again hosting the Goddess of War tournament for varsity/JV girls.
Veronika Shayhen placed second and Anastasia Richardson won the Consolation bracket. Brooklyn Burton placed second in the JV division.
The weekend of Dec.7-8 saw Hawk wrestlers competing in various places. The boys varsity competed at Tokay, and girls varsity was at Casa Roble as well as JV boys.
Girls varsity had Veronika Shayhen and Kaydince Silva taking first place, Anastasia Richardson taking second and Brooklyn Burton taking first in her first varsity tournament.
JV boys were led by Cutler Perez with a second-place showing, while third places were Noe Pantaleons and Jack Rowe. Jaden Vang and Jessie Bernal both finished fourth. Liberty had a great showing on team scores, taking third out of 18 teams.
The weekend of Dec. 14-15 is a preparation weekend, then the girls’ team will head to the Women’s West Coast Tournament of Champions for a two-day event, while the boys’ varsity will compete in the Casa Roble Marty Mange Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 21.
