GALT, CA (MPG) - The Warriors came up short when they hosted the Liberty Ranch Hawks in the crosstown game on Jan. 17. The Hawks prevailed by a final score of 3-2.

Both teams were psyched up and ready to play. The boys have played with or against each other since they were little, but this game is the one that matters most to them.

With both teams neck and neck for first in league, the title was on the line.

Junior Giovanni De Leon outran the Liberty defense and scored first for the Warriors. Hawk sophomore Christian Maciel was able to get one in when the Galt goalie came out for a save and went around him.

The Hawks stayed focused and Sophomore Isaac Flores, always in the right place for the Hawks, scored Liberty’s second goal.

During the second half, the Warriors still hadn’t answered back when Hawk Freshman Ivan Gonzalez scored again, making the score 3-1. With nine minutes left in the game, Warrior sophomore Angle Munoz kept hope alive by scoring for the Warriors, making it 3-2.

The play started getting frantic as Galt tried to score the equalizer. The night was freezing cold, but the sweat was pouring off both teams as each tried to best the other.

Hawk goalie senior Raj Pillay had four saves while Galt’s sophomore keeper Adam Preciado had three. Beto Dominguez and Christian Maciel were credited with assists for the Hawks and Ben Stratton was credited with an assist for the Warriors.
