GALT, CA (MPG) - With the bustling energy of the upcoming stunt season in the air, Galt High School is excited to announce the hiring of Emmary Buys as its new stunt coach. Buys comes to Galt with a wealth of experience and a deep-seated passion for the sport that has shaped her life.
A graduate of Liberty Ranch High School, Buys cheered and participated in stunt during her final two years, laying the foundation for what would become a distinguished career. She was a part of the inaugural stunt team at Jessup University, where she not only made her mark but also helped to build the reputation of the program during its critical first four years.
“I was a backspot,” Buys shared, reflecting on her role in the sport that blends athleticism and timing. Her commitment paid off as she earned three national championship rings in college and one during her high school career.
Choosing to coach at Galt High is a significant step for Buys.
“Stunt is a passion of mine,” she explained. “When I joined the team in high school, I wasn’t the best student. However, being part of a program helped me become more responsible, and it changed my life.”
Her personal journey fuels her desire to inspire the next generation of stunt performers. This season, she will lead a robust team of 21 young women, eager to learn and enhance their skills.
Buys emphasizes motivation as one of her key strategies for success.
“A significant part of their motivation comes from my assistant coach, Andelyn Buys, and myself being athletes from Liberty Ranch,” she noted. “We understand the challenges they face and know how to provide the tips they need to push themselves.”
This connection allows her to cultivate an environment of trust and encouragement, which is crucial in an intense sport like stunt.
Her coaching philosophy centers on development. Buys firmly believes that there is always room for improvement, no matter a performer’s skill level.
“I've experienced firsthand how learning new techniques and honing existing skills can lead to success,” she stated. “Some of the fundamentals I learned later in college were pivotal in helping my team win those national titles.”
As she builds the Galt High stunt program, Buys is focusing on the basics.
“We’re working on developing their skill levels and mindsets coming into games and tournaments,” she explained. Notably, the team has made strides in being open-minded and receptive to corrections, which is essential for their growth.
When asked about the team’s goals for the season, Buys is clear: “Our aim is to improve our mindset and skill level every day to prepare for competitions.”
Looking beyond the current season, she has set her sights even higher.
“We want to perfect the levels we have, even if we don’t have all of them yet,” she added, demonstrating her commitment to long-term excellence.
With Emmary Buys at the helm, the future looks promising for the Galt High School stunt team. Her combination of experience, passion and a holistic approach to coaching will undoubtedly inspire the young athletes to excel both on the mat and in their personal lives.
As the season progresses, the Galt High community eagerly anticipates the success that is sure to follow under her guidance.
