GALT, CA (MPG) - Galt High School boys’ soccer team capped off an impressive season with an emotional end-of-the-year awards banquet, where head coach Julian Parra announced the six players honored with All-League distinctions. Leading the pack, senior Hayden Miller was named the Sierra Valley Conference (SVC) All-League MVP by the coaches in the league, a testament to his hard work, respect for others, and positive influence on the team and community. The other players selected for all-League were Giovanni DeLeon, Jaylen Mendez, Josue Diaz, Breen Velázquez and Ben Stratton.
Coach Parra, in his first year at the helm, proudly recounted the team's journey, ending the season as co-league champions alongside Liberty Ranch. "I would say this Galt High Boys Soccer Season was really good," stated Parra. "We faced a lot of inconsistencies throughout the year due to injuries, but we embraced the 'next man up' mentality. We believed in one another and really became a brotherhood. This group of young men weren’t just 'my players,' they became my little brothers. Family."
Parra highlighted the season’s mix of triumphs and challenges, praising the growth he witnessed among his players. Despite experiencing some tough losses, he emphasized the friendships formed and the support system established within the team. “Our biggest victory as coaches is knowing that every single one of these student-athletes knew they had a friend in Coach Patino, Coach Luis, and myself. They belonged,” he reflected.
Miller’s MVP honor reflected not just his athletic prowess but also his unwavering dedication and mentorship qualities. In a team that emphasized collective effort, Ben Stratton distinguished himself as the nation’s top assister, supporting his teammates in their quest for victory. Stratton’s relentless work ethic and commitment have earned him a chance to attend the prestigious Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo.
Another success story is David Morales Jr., a three-year varsity player, who faced a season-ending hamstring injury that limited his time on the field. Despite the setback, Morales is set to thrive academically at UC Merced, where he will pursue a degree in Biochemical and Biomolecular Engineering, aspiring to become a petroleum engineer.
The awards banquet also acknowledged other standout players, including Giovanni DeLeon, Josue Diaz, and Breen Velazquez, along with a talented roster: Juno Goss, Jaylen Mendez, Logan Rose, Kitto Gonzalez, Sebastian Gonzalez, Anthony Zambrano, Ulisses Yepez, and Christian Gomez. Most of these athletes will further their education or serve in the military, showcasing the team’s commitment to success beyond soccer.
Coach Parra extended gratitude to the Galt High School Administrators, staff, parents of the athletes, and the coaching team of Luis Carlos and Jose Patiño for their unwavering support throughout the season.
As awards were handed out, recognition went to those who exemplified the spirit of teamwork and dedication. The Teammate Awards were presented to Logan Rose and Victor Gonzalez, while the Heart of a Warrior honors went to Christian Gomez and Josue Diaz. Ben Stratton received The Visionary Award as the nation's top assister, Hayden Miller earned the Red and White Versatility Award, Giovanni DeLeon was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Breen Velazquez took home the Defensive Player of the Year award.
This season's successes, both on and off the field, illustrated that while victories may be celebrated, the true wins lie in the relationships and growth fostered among the players and coaches. As the Galt boys’ soccer program moves forward, the bonds created this year will undoubtedly pave the way for future achievements and cherished memories.
