GALT, CA (MPG) - In an exhilarating matchup on Thursday, April 24, the Galt High baseball team showed resilience and determination against Union Mine, bouncing back from a tough loss earlier in the week to the Diamondbacks. Though the Warriors fell short with a final score of 6-4, the game was a testament to the team’s fighting spirit.

Union Mine came out swinging, establishing its dominance early by scoring four runs in the first inning. However, Galt quickly responded, matching the Diamondbacks with a run of their own in the second inning, showing that the Warriors wouldn’t back down easily.

Both teams entered a stalemate during the third and fourth innings, with neither side able to capitalize on scoring opportunities. As the game progressed into the later innings, Galt found its rhythm, scoring two runs in the fifth to narrow the gap. Despite the Diamondbacks adding another run in the sixth, the Warriors kept the pressure on, threatening to take control with a bases-loaded situation in the seventh inning.

With Union Mine on its fourth pitcher of the evening, tension mounted as Galt's chances for a comeback hung in the balance. Unfortunately, a final strikeout dashed the Warriors’ hopes, leaving three runners stranded on base and sealing the 6-4 victory for Union Mine.

Nick Reid was a standout for the Warriors, taking on the lion’s share of pitching duties. He delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings, striking out six batters and walking four. Gianni Sterni stepped in for the final inning, striking out one and walking two, showcasing the depth of talent on the mound for Galt.

Offensively, Reid also made his mark with two hits, joined by Carlo Sterni, who contributed a solid performance as well. James Gilbert, Michael Perucca, Cash Myrick and Jared Russell each added a hit, with Reid, Perucca, Myrick and Gianni Sterni crossing home plate to score for the Warriors.

During the game, head coach Mike Tassano encouraged his team to embrace the experience, reminding them to relax and enjoy the game while maintaining focus on every play. His leadership and wisdom continue to guide the Warriors.

It has been a tough season for the Warriors but their fighting spirit is evident. Their season will end Thursday, May 1 when they play Liberty Ranch.
