GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch High School’s stunt team soared to league champion once again after securing an impressive victory against crosstown rivals Galt High School in their final league match, with a commanding score of 22 to 1. This win not only capped an undefeated league season but solidified the Hawks’ longstanding dominance in stunt cheerleading, a sport they have excelled in for nearly as many years as it has existed.
The Hawks showcased their prowess throughout the league, overcoming formidable opponents including El Dorado, Argonaut and Bradshaw Christian, culminating in a perfect record this year. Under the careful guidance of Head Coach Barbara Welch and her dedicated coaching staff, the team has refined its routines and strategies, positioning itself as a formidable contender for the section tournament.
This year’s section tournament is divided into two divisions, with Liberty Ranch competing in Division Two alongside 16 other teams. The Hawks are seated at fourth place and will face tough competition as they aim to advance past Roseville, Lincoln and top-seeded Twelve Bridges to chase the title of section champions.
Coach Welch praised the hard work and commitment of her athletes, saying, “Every practice is focused on fine-tuning our routines and enhancing our skills. This team is not only talented but also understands the importance of teamwork and dedication, which makes us a force to reckon with.”
Meanwhile, Galt High School, under the leadership of new coach Emmary Buys, had a successful season, finishing in third place in the league and maintaining a playoff contender position. The Warriors achieved victories over El Dorado (9-2) and Argonaut (9-8) though they faced setbacks against Bradshaw (1-19) and Liberty Ranch, the latter confirming their third-place standing.
“This was a building year for us,” Coach Buys reflected. “We focused on the fundamentals and teaching our athletes what they’re truly capable of. The progress they’ve made this year, moving from levels 1 and 2 to partner stunts at levels 4 and 5, as well as pyramids at level 4, is remarkable.”
The Warriors entered the playoffs on Monday night to face Roseville, but their journey ended there. Meanwhile, Liberty Ranch will kick off its playoff journey on Tuesday, with the final rounds set to take place on Saturday at Galt High School gymnasium.
With a chance to secure their place as section champions, the Hawks are poised to make their mark in the tournament. Both programs reflect the heart and determination of their athletes as they navigate this exciting emerging sport.
