SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Emilyann Sheldon of Galt High School earned second place in the animation category of the 2025 High School Public Service Announcement (PSA) Competition, hosted by the Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) in partnership with Access Sacramento.
Sheldon’s PSA, “The Biggest Threats Against Your Pipes,” was recognized for its creative and educational approach to raising awareness about proper sewer practices. The annual competition encourages high school students across Sacramento County to produce 30-second animated or live-action videos addressing environmental issues such as flushing wipes and disposing of medications safely.

More than 30 student teams submitted entries as part of the initiative, which is part of SacSewer’s Confluence Regional Partnership Program. The program aims to promote environmental stewardship through youth engagement and public outreach.

“This competition not only brings visibility to important environmental issues but also gives students a platform to express their ideas and sharpen their storytelling skills,” said Donna Girot, executive director of Access Sacramento.

Winning PSAs, including Sheldon’s, will be broadcast throughout the spring and summer on Access Sacramento, Metro 14, and the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium. Encore presentations will air during the “Hometown Game of the Week” high school sports broadcasts later in the year.
