GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warrior baseball team played its final home game of the season last Tuesday against the visiting Liberty Ranch Hawks. It was a bitterly contested matchup that ended with a 5-0 loss for the Warriors. With the stands decorated in honor of the seven seniors, the atmosphere was charged with emotion as the team celebrated its contributions while facing a stark reality: the loss of so many key players will significantly impact next season.

The Hawks took control early in the game, scoring three runs in the first inning, while the Warriors struggled to capitalize on their own opportunities despite loading the bases during several innings. Liberty Ranch added to its lead with runs in both the second and third innings, ultimately closing the game at 5-0.

“Liberty Ranch came out strong, and we had chances to get back in the game that we just couldn’t convert,” said head coach Mike Tassano. “That’s the nature of baseball; you can field great opportunities, but you’ve got to capitalize on them.”

On the mound for Galt, senior Nick Reid delivered a commendable performance, pitching 6.1 innings, striking out four batters and allowing 13 hits. With every pitch, Reid knew he was writing the final chapter of his high school baseball career, making it an emotionally charged moment when he was pulled from the game. Surrounded by appreciative teammates and coaches, Reid received heartfelt hugs as he walked off the mound for the last time.

“Nick gave it his all out there, and we are so proud of him,” said Coach Tassano. “It was tough to see him go, but that’s part of the game. He’s been a leader for us this season, and his heart and dedication will be missed next year.”

With Reid's departure, senior Gianni Sterni took over pitching duties for the final outs, impressively striking out two Hawks in less than an inning. However, the lack of offensive support was evident for Galt as only Reid and Sterni managed to record hits throughout the game.

On the flip side, Liberty Ranch’s Vance Moe was dominant on the mound, striking out 13 Warriors and walking four in a complete game shutout.

Garrett Owen led the Hawks’ offensive barrage with three hits, while Kade Lecompte added a pair of hits, contributing to their overall success. Moe, along with Nolan House and Hunter Adversalo, also crossed the plate to help secure the win for Liberty Ranch.

After the game, an emotional scene unfolded as families of the senior players gathered on the field. Coach Tassano delivered a poignant tribute, celebrating the hard work and dedication of his senior players as they made their last walk from third base to home plate.

“It’s been an absolute honor to coach these young men,” Tassano expressed. “They’ve put in countless hours, whether it was on the field or in the weight room. It’s not just about baseball; it’s about the friendships and the bonds they’ve built. They’ll always be part of the Warriors family.”

As Galt prepares to navigate next season with only 12 players on the roster and a significant hole left by outgoing seniors, the team’s spirit remains strong.
