GALT, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawk softball team celebrated an unforgettable Senior Night last week, hosting their rivals, the Galt Warriors, in a thrilling game that ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. With an impressive final score of 11 to 1, the Hawks not only secured a decisive victory but also capped off a stellar regular season that saw them clinch first place in league play with a perfect 14-0 record and an overall record of 17-5.

The excitement of the evening was palpable, with the team eager to honor their seniors after the final out. Senior pitcher Paityn Snow took the mound and delivered an outstanding performance, throwing a complete game. She struck out seven batters while allowing just four hits and a single run, showcasing her skill and determination.

“It’s been an incredible season, and I’m so proud of how we’ve come together as a team,” Snow said, reflecting on the support she received from her teammates throughout the season. “This game was full of emotion, especially because it was senior night. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to end our regular season.”

As the game progressed, Galt freshman Makayla Moreno managed to cross the plate during the fifth inning, lifting the Warriors’ spirits. However, with the Hawks leading 10-1, they only needed a single run in their final at-bats to seal the deal.

In a moment of serendipity, Liberty’s Khali Barrantes, who had two hits during the game, managed to get on base and then stole her way to third. Stepping up to the plate with a sense of urgency, catcher Gracyn Graviette found herself with an unexpected opportunity. She had assumed her previous at-bat would mark the end of her contributions, but she seized the moment, hitting a breathtaking triple with an RBI to end the game, sending the team into celebratory euphoria.

The Hawks demonstrated their prowess at the plate, with significant contributions from Barrantes and Bella Granada, both recording two hits, while Kaitlynn Castro, Gracyn Graviette, Carlie Perez and Shelby Duarte each added a hit to the tally. Notably, Barrantes and Granada crossed the plate twice, while Snow, Gravette and others contributed one run each, displaying the depth of the Hawks’ lineup.

On the opposing side, Galt displayed resilience with hits from Lexi Maldonado, Roxy Garcia, Zoe Sanchez and the notable run from Moreno. Despite their efforts, they faced a formidable rival in the Hawks.

Hawk head coach Vince Bunac couldn’t be more proud of his team.

“This season has been a testament to our unity and teamwork,” he exclaimed, his excitement palpable. “It’s the perfect time for us to come together and truly work as one cohesive unit as we head into the playoffs. Being seeded fourth is an honor, and it means we’ll face talented opponents. However, at this level, every team is strong, and I truly believe we have a genuine shot at winning the section title.”

With the playoffs set to commence on Wednesday, the Hawks are ready to carry the momentum from their successful season into the next chapter. As they prepare for the challenges ahead, the energy and determination displayed on Senior Night will undoubtedly fuel their quest for glory on the diamond.
