RIVERBANK, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors Track and Field team showcased remarkable talent and determination at the San Joaquin Section Division 4/5 Championships held on May 14 and 16 at Riverbank High School. Successfully qualifying six athletes for this competitive meet, the Warriors left a notable mark, setting multiple personal records and achieving new milestones.
A highlight of the championships was the exceptional performance of the Boys 4x800m relay team, consisting of Alejandro Herrera, Logan Rose, Dominic Gonzalez and Kitto Gonzalez, who completed their race with a stunning time of 8:20.36. This outstanding finish not only clinched first place but also established a new school record that reflects the athletes’ dedication and hard work.
Individually, Emilyann Sheldon made waves by achieving personal records in both the 1600m and 3200m events, completing the former in a time of 5:43.35 and the latter in 12:32.91. Likewise, Logan Rose also excelled, recording impressive personal bests of 4:34.60 in the 1600m and 9:57.96 in the 3200m. Alejandro Herrera contributed to the team’s success with a personal record of 2:02.97 in the 800m run.
The Boys 4x800m relay team’s incredible performance has earned them a spot in the upcoming CIF SJS Masters meet, set to take place next Friday at Folsom High School. Additionally, seniors Kitto Gonzalez and Logan Rose will be competing in the 1600m event on Saturday evening, competing against the region’s top athletes.
However, it was a bittersweet moment for the team, as Morgan Jones narrowly missed advancing in the 100m hurdles.
Reflecting on the championships and the season, Head Coach Bruce Peterson expressed his pride in the team’s achievements and his fondness for the graduating seniors.
“Coaching this track team has been a rewarding experience. Our young team shows great potential, though we will miss our seniors. It’s been gratifying coaching many of these distance runners for four years and watching them grow as people and athletes.
“They have all improved so much since the beginning,” he stated.
With a young team and the determination to build on this year’s successes, the Warriors are poised for continued achievements in track and field.
