GALT, CA (MPG) - In a rare and inspiring milestone, John Edward Houck and Marjorie Lee (Cox) Houck, both of Delia, Kansas, celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on June 20. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple will be honored at a special gathering at their home in Galt to commemorate a lifetime of love, dedication and partnership.

John, 96, and Marjorie, 93, were married on June 20,1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas, beginning a journey that has spanned three-quarters of a century. Their remarkable union has witnessed countless historical events, cultural changes and technological advancements, all while they built a loving home and strong family foundation.

The couple grew up in the same town of Delia, Kansas. They were married after John returned from World War II. The couple spent their first summer of wedded bliss traveling the Midwest helping with the wheat harvest alongside John’s sister and brother-in-law. The couple spent two years in Kansas and set out for the Sacramento area in their 1949 Chevrolet. They spent approximately 17 years in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento and eventually settled on a 10-acre piece of property in Galt where they have resided for 55 years.

John learned the skills of being a landscape contractor and owned his business for many decades, while Marjorie was a homemaker and later earned her cosmetology license. They have been active members of the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento and the Galt United Methodist Church. They continue to inspire all who know them with their enduring love and commitment.

The couple were blessed to enjoy many RV trips across the country with close friends and family. They enjoyed “just getting in the truck and seeing the country.”

The memories they created during these trips are ones they have always cherished.

John enjoys being outside every chance he gets. He stays active with his winter and summer gardens, fruit trees and cattle. Marjorie loves reminiscing about their life and travels. Over the years, Marjorie was an avid baker and quilter, from which everyone around her benefited (especially the baking).

Together, they raised three children: Gregory, Scott and Brent. They are proud grandparents of four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, with two more arriving in November.

When asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, Marjorie said, “You just take it one day at a time.” They also agree that communication and a lot of humor helps.

Their family and friends are thrilled to celebrate this extraordinary milestone with them and wish them continued health and happiness in the years ahead.

Happy 75th Anniversary to John and Marjorie, a true testament to everlasting love and commitment!
