GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Youth Baseball Farm-Aces team’s journey to championship glory this season stands as a testament to perseverance, growth and the power of dedicated coaching.
Under the guidance of coaches Jed McNamara, Max Deegan, Chris Alvarez and Noemi Alvarez, the Aces – comprising players aged 7 to 9 – transformed from a diverse group of varying skill levels into champions.
“When we first met the team and coaches, we were a little scared of how seriously they took the game,” recalls parent Diana Rivera. “But as parents, we all quickly got on board with them, making sure all the players were on time for practice and games and ready to go.”
The roster featured Andrew Upton, Ayden Alvarez, Brady McNamara, Collin Harris, Connor Deegan, Giovanni Osvaldo Rivera, Jacob Chase, Liam Elliot, Nash Nelson, Ruben Herrejon, Vinny Andrade and Zaydrian Gonzales, some playing their first season of baseball, others with several years of experience.
Early in the season, the coaching staff recognized the team’s potential. The players communicated well both on and off the field, showing promise that they could achieve something special. However, the season soon presented unexpected challenges.
Midway through their campaign, the team’s shortstop left for a three-week trip to Mexico. Shortly after, their second baseman suffered a broken hand, reducing the Aces to just 10 active players. Despite these setbacks, the team remained resilient and continued to develop.
The true test came during the championship finals against River Delta: the only team that had defeated the Aces during the playoffs. With their full roster of 12 players finally available, the Aces faced a do-or-die situation: lose the morning game and their season would end; win, and they’d have a shot at the championship.
What followed was a remarkable display of determination. The doubleheader stretched across 12 grueling innings, with both teams exhausting their primary pitchers due to pitch count limits. New players stepped up to the mound when called upon, showcasing the team’s depth and versatility.
Perhaps most emblematic of the team’s growth was its third baseman, who earlier in the season would step out of the batter’s box when a pitch came too close. By the championship, he was confidently fielding balls and making crucial defensive plays.
The Aces’ dedication ultimately paid off as they captured the Galt Youth Farm Baseball championship. Their success continued into the Prestate tournament, where they went undefeated. Though they fell just short in the State Playoff Championship final game, securing second place represented a remarkable achievement for this group of young athletes.
Throughout their impressive run, the Aces competed against formidable opponents including All American, Trash Pandas, Majewski, Castle, Pirates, Savage, Margullis, Campos and their championship rivals, River Delta.
For these young players, coaches and supportive parents, the season delivered more than just trophies; it provided valuable lessons in overcoming adversity, supporting teammates and the rewards of hard work and dedication.
