Shooting Suspect in Custody; None Injured

GALT, CA (MPG) - On Saturday, June 28, at approximately 4:22 a.m., Galt Police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North Lincoln Way following a report of a shooting. The reporting party stated their upstairs neighbor approached the front door of their residence, brandished a handgun, fired one round at the door and then returned to his apartment. The suspect was unknown to the victims. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was injured. The incident was captured on Ring camera footage.
Galt Police Department Investigations, SWAT and additional officers from the Elk Grove Police Department responded to assist with the active situation. Nearby apartments were evacuated, and some residents chose to shelter in place for safety.
SWAT officers made announcements instructing the suspect to surrender. A short time later, the male suspect exited his apartment and was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Javier Ordaz of Galt.
A search warrant was executed at his residence, where investigators said they recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the incident.
The firearm was reported stolen, and Ordaz was found to be a convicted felon with prior robbery convictions.
Ordaz was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the following charges: assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and felon in possession of a firearm.
Ordaz is currently ineligible for bail. His next scheduled court appearance was Tuesday, July 1.
