Arrest in Attempted Murder and Arson Case

Jul 03, 2025 10:49AM ● By Galt Police Department News Release
GALT, CA (MPG) - On Oct. 3, 2021, shortly after midnight, Galt Police Department officers and the Cosumnes Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 700 block of Benteen Way. While on scene, officers were also dispatched to a reported shooting in the 100 block of A Street.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that both incidents were connected and involved the same suspect. The suspect was identified as Mario Felix, 48, of Galt.

Officers said they learned that Felix had arrived at a residence on A Street and opened fire on several family members. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Officers also said they discovered that earlier that evening, Felix had fired shots at the same individuals at another location in unincorporated Sacramento County.

Police said the fire at the Benteen Way residence was arson, with evidence indicating Felix intentionally set fire to his own residence prior to the second shooting. After the incidents, Felix fled the area.

His vehicle was later located at a gas station in Ripon, prompting a multi-agency search. Although he was not immediately located, a warrant for his arrest was obtained.

In January, Galt Police Department received information suggesting Felix was in Arizona. Local authorities were contacted and conducted an investigation, but he was not located. Subsequent intelligence indicated Felix had returned to California and was living and working in San Bernardino County.

Due to jurisdictional limitations, Galt Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Office.

On June 24, U.S. Marshals successfully apprehended Felix in San Bernardino County. He is currently in custody awaiting extradition to Sacramento County, where he will face charges including attempted homicide, with additional charges pending.
