STOCKTON, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawks proved that heart and determination can overcome size disadvantages Friday night, defeating Stockton’s Stagg High School 41-26 in an impressive road victory.

Despite facing a Stagg team with nearly twice as many players on its roster, the Hawks came out firing and never looked back. Liberty Ranch jumped to an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter and continued its relentless attack throughout the night.

The Hawks extended their advantage in the second quarter while their defense completely shut out the Delta Kings, taking a commanding lead into halftime. Stagg managed to find the end zone once in the third quarter with a touchdown and extra point, but Liberty Ranch answered right back with two touchdowns and two extra points of its own.

The Delta Kings made a valiant comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks 13-7 in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit as Liberty Ranch held on for the 41-26 victory.

Running back Joe Lara was the star of the night, rushing for 181 yards and an incredible four touchdowns. The junior showed his passion for the game even when his helmet was ripped off during one tackle.

“I felt pretty energetic. I was just excited, you know,” Lara said after the game. “Football’s my passion, and nothing’s going to stop me, not even 11 players – the whole team on me – nothing’s going to stop me from getting in that end zone. I love my line, man. I love my linemen. I got to give it all to them.”

Andrew Quinn provided excellent support in the backfield with 138 rushing yards, and he added an 18-yard reception to finish with 156 total yards. Wyatt Corriea contributed 69 yards on the ground plus an 11-yard catch for 80 total yards and one touchdown.

Quarterback Ryan Ogas managed the game effectively, completing four passes for 25 yards while adding 39 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own.

On defense, Lara led the way with four tackles, while James Rangel, Corriea and Quinn each recorded two tackles with numerous assists from the offensive line. Corriea and Daniel Swearingen each registered sacks in the victory.

Special teams also contributed to the win, with Enzo Diaz returning a kick for 20 yards and Rangel converting five extra points.

Head coach Warren Schroeder was pleased with his team’s effort but knows there’s room for improvement.

“We have many things to fix on both sides of the ball, but we are pleased with the overall effort and look forward to a big challenge from Linden to help us get better,” Schroeder said.

The victory showcases the Hawks’ ability to compete with larger programs through preparation, teamwork and sheer determination: qualities that will serve them well as the season progresses.
