GALT, CA (MPG) - The city has partnered with a local contractor to use goats for vegetation control at several city locations.

This environmentally friendly approach helps clear overgrown vegetation, improves drainage and reduces the risk of localized flooding during storm events.

Goats are particularly useful in sensitive areas where traditional vegetation management methods are restricted. Locations for grazing include Dead Man Gulch and other city-owned drainage areas.

To ensure the safety of both the goats and the public, temporary electric fencing will be installed, and a trained herder with working dogs will be on site to monitor the animals. Residents are welcome to observe the goats in action but are asked to respect the fencing and keep children from approaching the goats or the working dogs.
