Hawks Soar to 62-29 Victory Over Dixon

DIXON, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawks delivered a statement performance on Friday, Sept. 12, overwhelming the Dixon Rams 62-29 in a road game that showcased the team’s explosive offensive capabilities and opportunistic defense.
After a modest 7-0 first quarter lead, the Hawks erupted for 35 second-quarter points to seize control of the game and never looked back, making their record 3-0 on the season.
Liberty Ranch’s rushing attack proved unstoppable, as the team accumulated 349 yards on 49 carries for an impressive 7.1 yards per attempt. The Hawks found the end zone eight times on the ground, with three different players recording multiple rushing touchdowns.
Junior Joe Lara led the ground assault with 123 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, including a long of 30 yards. Fellow junior Andrew Quinn matched Lara’s touchdown output, grinding out 102 yards on 15 attempts with three scores of his own.
“Our offensive line did a tremendous job creating running lanes all night,” said elated Hawk parent Jackie Corriea after the game. “When you can establish that kind of ground game, it opens up everything else.”
Junior Wyatt Corriea added 42 yards and a touchdown on just five carries, while senior James Rangel contributed 36 yards on six attempts. Even quarterback Ryan Ogas got in on the action, rushing for 47 yards on six carries.
While the running game dominated, junior quarterback Ryan Ogas efficiently managed the passing attack, completing five of nine attempts for 108 yards and one touchdown. His 135.4 passer rating reflected the Hawks’ balanced offensive approach.
Junior receiver Enzo Diaz emerged as Ogas’ primary target, hauling in three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown, including a long of 36 yards. Lara added two receptions for 33 yards, showcasing his versatility as both a runner and receiver.
The Hawks’ 457 total yards of offense overwhelmed a Dixon defense that struggled to contain Liberty Ranch’s multiple threats.
Liberty Ranch’s defense complemented the offensive fireworks by forcing turnovers and consistently pressuring Dixon’s quarterback. The Hawks recorded six sacks for 40 yards in losses, with junior Soni Takafua leading the pass rush with two sacks for 18 yards.
Junior Deshaun Jackson also recorded two sacks for 12 yards, while seniors Kyle Quaresma, Daniel Swearingen, and Cesar Becerra contributed one sack apiece.
The secondary made crucial plays throughout the game, with Diaz and Lara each recording interceptions. Diaz returned his pick for 33 yards, while the Hawks defense also recovered a fumble for 17 yards.
“Our defense stepped up when we needed them to,” noted tight end Takafua . “Getting those turnovers and putting pressure on their quarterback really helped us control the game.”
Senior James Rangel handled kicking duties effectively, converting eight of nine extra point attempts and consistently placing kickoffs well with a 36.4-yard average on 10 attempts.
The Hawks’ special teams units also contributed to field position, with Diaz returning a kickoff 30 yards and Rangel handling punt-return duties.
The game’s turning point came in the second quarter when Liberty Ranch exploded for 35 points while Dixon managed just 13. The Hawks’ ability to score quickly and efficiently during this stretch effectively put the game out of reach.
Liberty Ranch added 14 third-quarter points to extend its lead to 56-21 before coasting through the final period with six more points.
The dominant victory showcases Liberty Ranch’s potential when all phases of the game click simultaneously. The Hawks’ balanced offensive attack, featuring both a powerful ground game and efficient passing, combined with an opportunistic defense, provides a blueprint for continued success.
With multiple players contributing significantly on both sides of the ball, Liberty Ranch appears to be hitting its stride at the right time in the season. The team’s depth and versatility were on full display against Dixon, suggesting the Hawks could be a formidable opponent for any team on their remaining schedule.
The 62-29 victory serves as a confidence booster for the Hawks as they continue their campaign, demonstrating their ability to dominate in all three phases of the game when executing at their highest level.
