Costumes, Pumpkins and Season Spirit

GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt community is once again coming together to celebrate the season with classic fall and Halloween events, adding to the city’s small-town charm and festive spirit. From pumpkin patches to costume contests, there’s something for everyone to enjoy through the end of October.

Kids Costume Contest

Real Galt FC, the city’s semi-professional soccer team, is inviting all ghosts, superheroes and soccer stars to take part in its inaugural kids’ costume contest on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The contest will be held during a Real Galt FC match at Walker Park, 13665 Sargent Ave., starting at 7:30 p.m. Each child who participates will receive a medal and one winner will take home the top prize trophy.

Jack-O’-Lantern Paint Night

The Color Wheel will host a Halloween-themed paint night for children from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at 305 4th St., Unit B. Participants ages 7 to 14 will get to make their own Jack-O’-Lantern in a Halloween-themed paint session. Cost is $30 per person and space is limited. Holidays On Elm Street

A house at the corner of West Elm Avenue and Sparrow Drive has been delighting visitors all month with a colorful Halloween light display and whimsical décor.

The yard features larger-than-life characters, including Jack Skellington and other spooky favorites. The show is synced to more than 30 songs from “Corpse Bride,” “Batman,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Hocus Pocus.”

The display runs nightly from 7:10 to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays at 248 W. Elm Ave.

Pumpkin Patches

Crazy Raven Pumpkin Patch, 10151 Twin Cities Road, is a Galt staple that offers a classic carnival-style pumpkin patch experience, including carnival rides and games, concession food and, of course, pumpkin picking. Open now through Friday, Oct. 31, hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends. Weekday one-ticket rides are available from 3 to 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free; more information is available at crazyravengalt.com.

Mike’s Pumpkin Patch & Corn Mazeis another local family-favorite located at 9420 Orr Road. The pumpkin patch features family favorites, including a petting zoo, face painting and a kids’ hay maze; along with adult attractions, including a six-acre corn maze, human hamster wheels and apple cannons.

Open through Oct. 31, hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. Admission covers most attractions. Food, pumpkins and select activities cost extra.

For those looking to pick their own fall produce, Apple Creek Vineyard at 11517 Colony Road offers a Saturday “U-Pick” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can harvest pomegranates, grapes, pumpkins and pears or purchase pre-picked produce at the farm stand. The vineyard accepts most payment types, including EBT and Sun Bucks.

Note that hours of operation for all pumpkin patches/u-pick might vary, depending on weather conditions.

The Galt Historical Society will host a haunted house experience at the Rae House Museum, 204 Oak Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Candy, bubbles, light-up rings and stickers will be handed out to children. The event is free and open to the community. Día de Muertos at Galt Cemetery

The Galt-Arno Cemetery at 14180 Joy Drive will hold its annual Día de Muertos celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

The event honors loved ones who have passed and features a mass with a dove release, live entertainment, a car show and local food vendors. Admission is free.

Old Town Trunk or Treat

Nonprofit L’Chayim, in partnership with the City of Galt, will host its fifth annual Trunk or Treat from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 in Old Town Galt. Fourth Street will be closed from B to E streets as businesses, nonprofit organizations and service clubs hand out treats to children.

Participants include Brewster’s Kitchen, 4th Street Tavern, Back Alley Brewhouse, Barsetti Vineyards, Galt 4H, Galt Historical Society, Galt Lions Foundation, Ink House Social and the Kiwanis Club of Galt.

Autumn Brews

Back Alley Brewhouse will host its fifth annual Oktoberfest celebration from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The celebration will feature German beer, a stein-holding competition, a best costume contest, music by DJ Andy Cruz and food from Brats by Ty’s Gourmet Dogs. Tickets are $10 per person and free for children. Space is limited and tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/3KIuPJM.

The brewery will also host Bingo and Brews on Friday, Oct. 24, benefiting the Liberty Ranch High School girls’ golf team. The event will include a costume contest, bingo games, a taco truck, hot apple cider and s’mores kits. Activities start at 6 p.m.
