GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Police Department recently reminded residents of its commitment to student safety, announcing stepped-up traffic enforcement around local schools.

In an Oct. 23 social media post, the department shared that its Traffic Safety Unit has increased patrols in school zones throughout the city. It noted that officers are focusing on crosswalk safety and ensuring that drivers yield to pedestrians, follow posted speed limits and remain alert during peak school hours.

“This initiative is a proactive step to protect our community’s students and promote safe driving behavior near our schools. Every driver plays a vital role in keeping our students safe as they travel to and from school,” the post read. “Together, we can create safer routes for every child in our community.”

The Galt Police Department also urged motorists to stay attentive behind the wheel, reduce their speed and always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
