RIO VISTA, CA (MPG) - A 55-hour closure is scheduled for the Rio Vista Bridge on Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. and expected to last until 4 a.m. on Nov. 10, according to a Caltrans press release.
Scheduling may vary depending on weather conditions, availability of specialized equipment, materials or unexpected events and is subject to change. The Caltrans statement thanked motorists in a statement for their patience as important upgrades continue to be made to the highway.
The Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement Program, a project costing $27.2 million, calls for Caltrans to perform critical repairs, including mechanical upgrades, replacing the bridge’s movable span deck, and installing 60 new steel stringers to extend the bridge’s service life.

"Because the existing bridge is too narrow to safely accommodate crews and heavy equipment while open to traffic, the project requires multiple 56-hour weekend closures scheduled between March and June," Caltrans said in a news release. "These closures allow crews to complete the work more efficiently and reduce the need for prolonged weekday disruptions."
While detours are in effect, motorists could potentially expect up to a two hour travel time across the Rio Vista Bridge, also known as the Helen Madere Memorial Bridge and to plan accordingly. Construction is expected to be complete by late summer.
