GALT, CA (MPG) - Whether you’re starting a new business or renewing your existing license, having a valid business license is required to operate legally in the City of Galt. Business licenses are issued under Galt Municipal Code (GMC) Title 5 - Business Taxes, Licenses, and Regulations.

Step one is to determine which application you need. For local businesses, businesses located within Galt city limits, use the “Application for the Conduct of Business” application. Licenses are issued annually and must be renewed each year. The application is available at bit.ly/GaltLocalBusinessLicenseApp.

Out-of-town businesses, businesses located outside Galt city limits but conducting business within the City of Galt, can use the “Quarterly Out-of-Town License” application. This license is also annual and requires renewal each year. It can be applied for at bit.ly/GaltOutOfTownBusinessLicenseApp.

Step two is to submit the application and payment; all applications must be filed and paid online. Once approved, a business license certificate will be issued, and it will need to be displayed at a visible location at the business location.

Step three is to remember to annually renew business licenses, which are due Jan. 1 of each year. Payments received more than 30 days after the due date will incur a penalty, per Galt Municipal Code Title 5. It is recommended to mark it on a calendar to stay current.
