GALT, CA (MPG) - A suspect connected to a series of fast-food restaurant robberies in Galt was physically detained by employees at the McDonald’s on Twin Cities Road the evening of Nov. 17, according to a post from local authorities.
The Galt Police Department announced the following day that three locations were targeted, including Taco Bell and Carl’s Jr. on C Street and the McDonald’s on East Stockton Boulevard and Twin Cities Road.
Police said officers were first dispatched to Taco Bell for a robbery in progress. Employees reported that a white male suspect entered the restaurant, demanded money from the register and threatened to “shoot the place up.” Surveillance footage showed the suspect wearing a white plaid flannel shirt and blue jeans.
As officers responded, police said, dispatch received a second call reporting another robbery in progress at Carl’s Jr. in the same business plaza. Authorities said employees reported that the suspect fled in a gray van headed westbound into town.
Shortly after, officers were dispatched to a third burglary-in-progress at the McDonald’s on East Stockton Boulevard and Twin Cities Road. According to the police post, dispatch advised responding officers that McDonald’s employees had “physically detained the suspect.”
Police said officers arrived and took the man into custody, wearing the same clothing seen in the Taco Bell surveillance footage. Employees at the McDonald’s also told officers they believed the same suspect had just committed a robbery at a McDonald’s in Lodi.
The Galt Police Department noted in its post that The Lodi Police Department responded to Galt, completed an in-person identification and confirmed it was the same individual.
According to police, the suspect admitted to committing all three robberies in Galt. A search revealed he was carrying a “substantial amount” of cash.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Travis James West of Lockeford, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI while on court probation and driving on a suspended license for DUI.
