GALT, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawk girls soccer team wasted no time asserting dominance in its home opener Monday night, overwhelming River Island with five first-half goals en route to a 5-0 shutout victory.

The Hawks controlled possession from the opening whistle, building a commanding lead before halftime that allowed Head Coach Rob Huarte to shift focus in the second half.

Five different players found the back of the net for Liberty Ranch, showcasing the team’s offensive balance. Freshman Emily Portillo led the scoring effort with one goal and three assists for five total points, earning a game-winner card in the process.

Junior Juliana Romero contributed a goal and an assist for three points, while freshmen Sarah Ayala and Brooke Sparks each scored their first varsity goals. Senior Faviola Vasquez rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own.

The Hawks registered four assists as a team, demonstrating unselfish play and strong chemistry in the attacking third.

Liberty Ranch’s defensive unit continued its impressive early-season form, recording another clean sheet. Senior goalkeeper Zia Ruppert made two saves on two shots on goal, maintaining a perfect 1.0 save percentage and 0.000 goals-against average through 80 minutes of action.

The shutout marks the team’s fifth consecutive game without conceding a goal, dating back to their Golden State Invitational championship where they blanked four opponents over 240 minutes.

The victory gave Huarte an opportunity to assess a roster that blends experience with youth. The Hawks feature 10 varsity returners who provide leadership and continuity from last season’s Division V Section championship team.

Liberty Ranch has also integrated five freshmen directly onto the varsity roster, along with eight players pulled up from the junior varsity squad. Monday’s lopsided victory allowed many of those newcomers to gain valuable varsity experience.

With offensive firepower, defensive solidity and growing roster depth, the Hawks appear poised to defend their section title as the season progresses.
