GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors JV girls basketball team claimed first place in the Galt Winter Classic this weekend, sweeping through four games with impressive performances on both ends of the court.

The Warriors showcased their dominance early, defeating Rio Vista twice (58-16 and 51-12) and Linden (55-9) before securing the championship with a hard-fought 33-26 victory over Bear Creek in the finals.

The tournament run was anchored by the exceptional guard play of Olivia Rodrigues and the defensive prowess of Hailey Suttenfield, who earned All-Tournament MVP honors for her stellar performance.

“Olivia commanded the offense with skill and precision, speeding up and slowing down the tempo as needed,” said Head Coach Steven Gunter. “Jayde (LaGrone) played a huge presence in the middle offensively and defensively, playing sound defense, and Hailey led all scorers with her steals leading to layups.”

Suttenfield’s ability to create turnovers and convert them into easy baskets proved crucial throughout the tournament, while Rodrigues orchestrated the offense with poise and control.

The Warriors’ balanced attack and suffocating defense proved too much for opponents, as they outscored their competition by an average of nearly 30 points per game.

The championship caps an impressive tournament performance for the young Warriors squad as it continues its season.
