GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors varsity boys basketball team demonstrated resilience and character on Tuesday night, battling back from a difficult second quarter to make a spirited second-half push against Summerville in a 49-30 contest.

The Warriors hung tough in the opening period, trailing just 7-5 after one quarter of play. But the second quarter proved challenging as Galt was held scoreless while Summerville extended its lead to 18-5 at halftime.

“We hit a wall in that second quarter,” said Head Coach Hunter Johnson. “But I’m proud of how our guys responded. They could have folded, but instead they showed character and fought their way back into competing.”

And compete they did. The Warriors found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring Summerville 13-11 in the third quarter to close the gap. Galt added 12 more points in the fourth quarter, refusing to back down despite the deficit.

Junior Garrett Rose carried the offensive load for the Warriors, scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. Rose also hit 2 of 3 from beyond the arc and grabbed three rebounds while dishing out an assist.

Senior Troy Sommer provided an efficient spark off the bench, going a perfect 2-for-2 from the field and 1-for-1 from three-point range to finish with five points. Sophomore Hunter Hileman added four points and pulled down three rebounds, while junior Bryan Villalobos contributed three points along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Warriors showed flashes of their potential throughout the game, pulling down 17 total rebounds (two offensive, 15 defensive) and recording 10 assists as a team. Senior Joel Diaz contributed two rebounds, three assists and one steal while facilitating the offense, and senior Seth Miller grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in a solid all-around effort.

The Warriors will look to build on their second-half performance as they continue their season. With leaders like Rose and a coaching staff that emphasizes resilience, Galt has the foundation to grow stronger with each game.
