RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors wrestling team turned in an impressive performance on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Cordova Toe to Toe Tournament, bringing home a haul of medals from as boys’ and girls’ competitors showcased their skills on the mat.

Under the guidance of Head Coach EJ Smith, the Warriors proved they’re a force to be reckoned with this season, with nearly every athlete earning a spot on the podium.

The Warriors claimed three first-place finishes on the day. Carson McEwen delivered a flawless performance, going 3-0 to capture the top spot in his weight class. On the girls’ side, Jacqueline Dahl matched that success with a 2-1 record to claim gold, while Vicente Avalos capped off the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record and a first-place medal.

Caleb McEwen battled his way to a second-place finish with a 2-1 record, demonstrating the grit and determination that defines Warrior wrestling. Jordyn Asuncion also took home silver with a 2-1 showing, while Izzie Miranda earned second place despite dropping two matches in a hard-fought bracket.

Everett Maraspini and Nikolette Gonzales rounded out the medal count with third-place finishes, going 2-2 and 1-2, respectively.

Coach Smith couldn’t hide his pride in his squad’s performance.

“I could not be prouder of our Warriors,” Smith said. “Nearly everyone brought home a medal, but what impressed me the most was the way they competed with toughness, discipline and respect. They trusted their training and fought for every point, and that’s the mark of a special team. This weekend showed what happens when hard work and belief come together.”

As the season progresses, the Warriors have sent a clear message to their competition: Galt wrestling is here to stay. With performances like these and a coach who believes in his athletes, the Warriors are poised for continued success on the mat.
