GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors’ perfect season came to an end Friday night, Dec. 19 as they fell 5-1 to the Division I Franklin Wildcats in a rain-soaked match that featured slippery conditions and physical play.

Cold temperatures and intermittent rain created challenging conditions throughout the evening, leading to exciting sliding tackles and unpredictable ball movement on the wet pitch. Despite the difficult circumstances, both teams battled through the elements in a contest that showcased the two talented teams.

Franklin, a skilled D1 program, jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead before adding three more goals in the second half. The Warriors managed to break through for their lone goal in the second period, preventing the shutout.

Forward Noah Stratton led the Warriors’ offensive efforts, battling Franklin defenders to create scoring opportunities near the goal. Galt goalie Adam Preciado made several key saves throughout the match, including one spectacular stop that drew applause from the home crowd as he quickly distributed the ball to start a counterattack.

Rafael Bertho was a bright spot for the Warriors, showcasing his skills on both sides of the ball. Bertho dribbled effectively down the sideline, creating space for his teammates, and won several crucial headers, including one impressive aerial battle where he out-jumped Franklin defenders.

The loss marks Galt’s first defeat of the season after an impressive 6-0 start that saw the Warriors dominate league competition. Prior to Friday’s match, Galt had outscored opponents 33-2 while posting three shutouts.

The Warriors opened their campaign with convincing victories over Burbank (4-1) and Elk Grove (4-1) before rolling through league play. Galt defeated Cosumnes Oaks 5-1, blanked Rosemont 5-0, dominated Bradshaw Christian 8-0 and crushed El Dorado 7-0 to establish itself as the team to beat in league play.

While the loss to Franklin snaps their winning streak, the Warriors remain undefeated in league competition and continue to control their own destiny in the race for a league championship.

Galt will look to bounce back and return to its winning ways as it continues league play in the coming weeks, where their dominant performances have made the Warriors the clear favorites.
