Five Rescued After Flooding Near Dry Creek

GALT, CA (MPG) - Five people and two dogs were rescued early Monday, Jan. 5 after rising floodwaters submerged a homeless encampment and left them stranded on an island near Dry Creek.
Speaking to local news outlets at the scene, Woodbridge Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Edwards said responders received the initial call around 3 a.m. and carried out a challenging water rescue for five individuals trapped by floodwaters following the weekend’s rain.
The Cosumnes Fire Department confirmed its crews assisted Woodbridge Fire with a water rescue along Dry Creek near the county line and Lincoln Way, south of Galt. In a social media post, the department later added that a primary and secondary search had been completed and several people were safely rescued from the area.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident, assisting with the rescue effort. Those rescued were transported to a hospital and treated for mild hypothermia. No additional injuries were reported.
