GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors wrestling program celebrated Senior Night last Wednesday, Jan. 7 with an emotional ceremony honoring nine graduating seniors, but the evening's competition proved challenging as the Warriors fell to both Union Mine and El Dorado in a home dual meet. Before the matches began, the Warriors’ nine seniors – six boys and three girls – were recognized alongside their parents in a heartfelt ceremony that celebrated their dedication and contributions to the program. The sendoff provided a bittersweet backdrop to an evening where the undermanned Warriors battled through adversity against two formidable opponents.
The Warriors dropped a close 32-22 decision to Union Mine in a competitive matchup that came down to key matches throughout the evening. Despite the loss, the Warriors showed resilience and fought hard in several contested bouts.

The night proved more difficult against El Dorado, whose significantly larger roster overwhelmed the Warriors. With Galt fielding only half of a full varsity lineup due to nagging injuries, the team was forced to forfeit multiple weight classes. El Dorado capitalized on the forfeits and its depth advantage to dominate the dual meet.
“With nagging injuries and half of a full varsity lineup last week, the focus was on fundamentals and execution of their game plans,” said Head Coach EJ Smith, who guides both the boys’ and girls’ programs. “Our kids showed heart out there, especially our seniors on their special night.”
Despite the challenging circumstances, several Warriors delivered standout performances. Senior Carson McEwen led the boys’ team with a strong showing on the mat, demonstrating the technique and determination that has defined his career. On the girls’ side, Madisen Gutierrez dominated her opponent with a first-period pin, showcasing the explosive power and technical skill that makes her one of the team’s most dangerous competitors.

The significance of Senior Night resonated throughout the gymnasium as the Warriors program celebrated its nine graduating seniors. These athletes have built a foundation of hard work and dedication that will continue to inspire future Warriors teams.
As the season moves forward, the Warriors will look to get healthy and return to full strength. With the focus remaining on fundamentals and execution, Coach Smith and his staff are working to prepare the team for the challenges ahead while honoring the legacy left by this year’s senior class.
