GALT, CA (MPG) - History was made as the Galt High School girls wrestling team captured the program’s first-ever league championship at the SVC Sac-Joaquin League Tournament. In a sport that is rapidly emerging across California, the Warriors have positioned themselves at the forefront, delivering a dominant performance that saw 10 wrestlers place in the top three of their weight classes.
Three Warriors claimed individual league titles, leading the way to the team championship. Madysen Gutierrez, Margareth Cacnio and Isabella Miranda each captured first-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
The Warriors’ dominance extended beyond the champions, with five wrestlers earning second-place finishes. Taylor Bentley, Jacqueline Dahl, Jordyn Asuncion, Nikolette Gonzales and Saide Mejia all reached the finals of their weight classes, showcasing the program’s strength across the lineup. Additionally, Hoa Le and Zoe Smith each placed third, rounding out a remarkable team performance.
The results mean that all 10 placing wrestlers have qualified for the Central Regional Tournament at Tokay High School, where they’ll compete for spots at the Masters Tournament.
Women’s wrestling has experienced explosive growth in recent years, with California leading the charge in providing opportunities for female athletes. The sport was officially sanctioned by the California Interscholastic Federation in 2018, and participation numbers have skyrocketed as more schools add programs and more young women discover their passion for wrestling.
Galt’s first league championship comes at a pivotal moment in the sport’s development. These Warriors aren’t just winning matches; they’re pioneers, helping to establish the standards and traditions that future generations will build upon. Their success will inspire younger girls in the community to step onto the mat and continue the legacy.
The road to the league championship required dedication, sacrifice and countless hours in the practice room. Each wrestler on the team has pushed herself and her teammates to reach new levels, creating a culture of excellence that produced this historic result.
As the Warriors prepare for the Central Regional Tournament at Tokay High School, they carry the momentum of a league championship and the confidence that comes from knowing they’re among the best in the region. Congratulations to the entire Galt girls’ wrestling team on making history and bringing home the program’s first-ever league championship.
